West Jr., MD - Charles A. West, Jr, MD Charles West, M.D., is a vascular surgeon with nearly two decades of medical experience. His work includes research in thoracic oncology, teaching and practicing vascular surgery. Dr. West currently serves as Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Dr. West is dedicated to providing a full spectrum of diagnostic evaluations and interventional treatments for problems with arterial and venous blood flow in the lower extremities, including problems with walking and wound healing related to reduced blood flow. He is skilled in the use of the latest operative and minimally invasive endovascular therapies, taking a conservative approach to treatment whenever possible. Dr. West also specializes in diseases of the aorta, aortic aneurysms and aortic graft infections, aortic reconstruction/repair, deep vein thrombosis and varicose vein treatments, endovascular procedures for aneurysms and occlusive diseases, carotid artery disease and peripheral artery disease. Additionally, he has a particular interest in the treatment of patients with acute and chronic mesenteric ischemia, thoracic outlet syndrome, and celiac compression syndrome. West is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Vascular Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. West earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University’s School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed a National Institute of Health research fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. After growing up in Houston, Dr. Crawford went to Harvard University for undergraduate and medical school where he graduated in 1977. He completed his residency at Mass General in Boston and completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He has a passion for mission work in Guatemala and completed ten mission trips there between 2000-2007. After retiring, Dr. Crawford has taught at UNTHSC and currently at TCU Burnett School of Medicine. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the Campbell Clinic/University of Tennessee, in Memphis. He returned to Fort Worth in 1989 and practiced orthopedic surgery for 25 years. Between 2014 and 2022, he served the Texas Health Resources healthcare system as the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Chief Medical Officer at the Texas Health Fort Worth and Texas Health Azle hospitals, respectfully. He officially retired in May 1, 2022 and remains active at TCU with the undergraduate campus and school of medicine, and Texas Health Fort Worth Hospital with committee service and leadership roles within graduate medical education. His greatest claim to fame is that over 40 years ago he married his medical school classmate, Leslie Tatum. He then pursued his medical career at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, earning his MD in 1969. He completed his rotation at the University of Colorado Denver from 1970-1974. Dr. Bloemendal served as general and vascular surgeon and Major in the United States Air Force at March Air Force Base in California from 1974-1976 and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1975. He received a vascular surgery fellowship from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles between 1976 and 1977. He and became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1980. He served the rest of his 41 year career specializing in General and Vascular Surgery in his private practice in Fort Worth. Active in the local community, Dr. Bloemendal was the chairman of the administrative board for the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth in 1994. Years later, he served as the chairman of the board of trustees for the Harris Methodist Health System from 1005-2008, a trustee of Texas Health Resources from 2011 to 2019 and president of the First Methodist Church of Fort Worth Foundation from 2017-2019. Dr. Bloemendal was president of Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society from 1983-1984, the Fort Worth Surgical Society in 1994 and the Texas Surgical Society in 2016. He also maintains involvement with the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association and the Tarrant County Medical Society. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Bloemendal was honored by Texas Doctors on its list of Texas Super Doctors from 2005 to 2008.
